wolfenstein 3-D - 1993
Wolfenstein 3-D was one of the most important games ever, for one reason - it was the first First Person Shooter. This genre is the biggest and most profitable in the industry, with legendary titles such as Call of Duty, Counter Strike, Battlefield, Medal of Honour, Rainbow Six, Doom and Halo all making millions of the idea. Later on, with DOOM and Quake, online play would be introduced into this idea, creating a type of play called Deathmatch. Deathmatch is now the most played game mode on any game ever. More hours have been spent on Call of Duty globallye than riding bicycles and running. The FPS genre truly took off with the release of Wolfenstein. It was important as it introduced many concepts, such different points of view (first person) and swappable guns.
the sony playstation - 1994
The Sony PlayStation is the best selling console ever, second only to its older brother, the PS2. It was revolutionary as it featured 32-bit colour at a price of $299, allowing people on smaller budgets to game, and save cards. These were small cartridges used to save game progress before the internet was ready for this kind of procedure. This was important as it meant story lines could have more detail, graphic capabilities could be better, all making the gaming experience more and more immersive..
