Many legal issues have been brought up with games, but few are as sinister as the ‘Slender Man Stabbing’. The Slender Man, a character designed for a contest on Paranormal Beings, is a creature that has inspired games like Slender: The Eight Pages and, tragically, incidents like this one. Two girls, aged 12 who believed Slender Man was real, stabbed another girl of the same age 19 times. Luckily, the victim survived. This affected society as it was yet another point in evidence for the age rating system which was still fairly new at this point.
Another legal issue surrounding gaming would be the case in 1982, when Universal, the film-makers, sued Nintendo over use of their character, Donkey Kong, and his resemblance to Universal's King Kong. This can be a fairly serious issue as if one company has an idea, it is completely illegal to take that idea and use it for your own intent. Luckily, the judges sided with Nintendo and they settled it out of court. This could've been important, as without Donkey Kong we would have no Mario, and then where would we be?
A social impact of gaming could be the popularity of Pac-Man and other arcade games amongst teens in the 1980’s, meaning people actually got out and about, down to the youth club or arcade instead of playing at home for once. This is what many people see as a positive impact of gaming, instead of many negatives that could be brought up. the same can be said for Nintendo's efforts with the DS range and the Gameboys.
